Teamwork Works

There are very few jobs out there where people are not required to do some type of social interaction and with that, teamwork is involved. Teamwork has always been a key aspect in my success for the two companies that I've done well in, and for that reason alone I believe I rose up so high in the ranks, so quickly and in today's hub we'll walk through a few reason why TeamWork is important and how to implement it in some situations.

It Works.

As the title suggests teamwork does work, only if everyone if readily available to cooperate. Building a great team is going to be essential in getting the most out of teamwork something which I will cover in a separate hub, so for now we will just focus on how and why teamwork works best.

Team work is the collaborated work of several individuals assigned a task to be completed. Now this task can be as simple as moving something from point A to point B, or something as difficult as rearranging an entire setup or remodeling an entire office. Now these two particular tasks can be done by individuals and will fit to that particular individuals needs but, more often than not it is not going to be the most efficient way of doing things. This is where teamwork comes into play.

For instance...

Take the first example, something so simple as moving, say a couch, from point A to point B can sound easy, but have you ever tried to move something on your own and you just can't get it to work for the life of you? Only to find a friend or a neighbor come in and tell you "Try this" and 'this' was a simple move or a minor adjust in your method? I know I have many of times and this is one of the reasons that teamwork is so crucial in many aspects of our lives.

It gives us a different view on things we see things in a different light and from a different angle without having to move to that different angle, so to speak. As with this situation we are now able to see that moving the arm of the couch we can wrap the couch around the door frame as opposed to ramming it through like we had thought so in our minds and it is more effective and less strenuous.

Take the latter example, this being a more tasking assignment one person being assigned this daunting task will no doubt take quit some time to achieve. Not only that but one person might have a set of ideas that may do well in some circumstances but not others.

This is where team work will really take into effect and be the most useful. If you have more than one person working on a task and those people are able to work in a civil manner and take and give ideas this task will be not only easy but will be efficient.

Why It Works Best.

For obvious reasons that I've stated before team work works because you get the collaborated thoughts and different views on one single situation as opposed to 'tunnel vision' at the situation at hand.  Like they've always said two brains are better than one.

But not only do you get more thoughts mixing in the process all of us that have worked in teams know that the more ideas thrown into the pot the more we can feed off of and mix and match ideas with other with a little taste of our own.  We then now have not only three ideas but we have one with the best of the best mixed into the equation and have the best of all three parts.

Setting Up For Success

When planning to do an assignment, task, or job and you need to work together you have to take into consideration the size of the project at hand, for example you don't want to have 5 people helping you decide what's the best way to set up a room, or the most efficient way to load something in a truck because then it will work against you.  You need to take into consideration:

  1. How big the job really is?
  2. What's the least amount of people you need to complete said task?
  3. Who are the best people for the job?
  4. Will they cooperate together?

Answering these questions takes longer to read than to actually answer for most cases, but there are some where you may want to do a bit of research especially on those really important tasks.

You want to make a team of capable people that can think but at the same time listen and comprehend others methods, that way we have a team that is adaptable to new ideas to get the most out of the time spent, because you don't want to take a whole day to load a couch.

Do You Play Nice?

We are sociable animals in our most rudimentary forms since the dawn of time we have been doing things in teams.  The cave man hunting, the Templars crusading, to my favorite, Wikipedia most everything is done best in collaborated work.

The preceding were reasons that teamwork works but the most important reason why we want to do things in teams or with other people is to be social.  While working in teams we learn what works what doesn't work, how to listen and how to work off of others ideas and we learn to think on our feet.  We become social and create bonds with those we work with and that is sometimes how we create life long friends.

I mean how can you not when you build something from the ground up and have it still standing years later?  You feel that bond and probably have a faint smile come to your face knowing that you were a part of that.
